Mission

The Benedictine Sisters of Erie Inc. is a community of women religious who through their hospitality, good works, and efforts for peace and justice, join with all those working to create a more compassionate and just world. Through their outreach ministries they are a presence in the Erie region, including inner-city Erie, where they respond to the needs of children, women, seniors, the poor, and the unemployed. Faithful to their life of prayer, community, and good work, they are a prayerful, peaceful presence in our troubled world.

Programs and Services

  • Key ministries of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie include: Saint Benedict Education Center, Inner-City Neighborhood Art House, Emmaus Ministries, Inc. Benetwood Apartments, Saint Benedict Child Development Center, Saint Benedict Community Center, Monasteries of the Heart, and Benetvision Publications. Throughout their 165 history they have:
  • Educated women and children throughout northwestern Pennsylvania
  • Fed the poor and hungry
  • Empowered low-income individuals to self-sufficiency
  • Prayed for a world in need of healing and grace
  • Welcomed and journeyed with the stranger
