The Erie Community Foundation

Workforce Development

The Workforce Development Community Advisory Panel, which was launched in June of 2009, has six members who are respected content experts or community members with special interest in workforce development. The Foundation trustee on the Workforce Development CAP is B.J. Lechner, who is also our board chairperson.

The Workforce Development CAP is charged with identifying a specific need and recommending a specific proactive solution for workforce development. The Erie Community Foundation allocates up to $100,000 a year for this work and to the extent possible, leverages additional outside funding.

The CAP work is a new way of doing business for The Erie Community Foundation. We recognize that to be a strong proactive grantmaker, we also have to provide philanthropic leadership. We can better elevate issues to the community by creating a common understanding of needs and opportunities.

To be successful in areas where the community has failed in the past, we have:

  • to foster new and more creative partnerships;
  • to leverage the limited resources of the community;
  • to coordinated grantmaking efforts with other initiatives; and
  • to seek the multiple opportunities to leverage additional funding.
