The Erie Community Foundation

Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education Community Advisory Panel, which was launched in Sept. of 2009, has 11 members who are respected content experts or community members with special interest in early childhood education.

Representing The Erie Community Foundation Board of Trustees on the Early Childhood Education CAP are: Susan Kemenyffy, Marne Roche and Maryann Yochim.

The Early Childhood CAP is charged with identifying a specific need and recommending a specific proactive solution for early childhood education. The Erie Community Foundation allocates up to $100,000 a year for this work and to the extent possible, leverages additional outside funding.

The CAP work is a new way of doing business for the Erie Community Foundation. We recognize that to be a strong proactive grantmaker, we have to provide philanthropic leadership. We can better elevate issues to the community by creating a common understanding of needs and opportunities.

To be successful, we have to:

  • foster new and more creative partnerships;
  • leverage the limited resources of the community;
  • coordinate our grantmaking efforts with other initiatives; and
  • seek the multiple opportunities to leverage additional funding.
