Acorn Symbolizes ECF

April 9, 2008 | News and Events

Just as Nike owns the famous “swoosh” and McDonalds is noted for their “golden arches,” The Erie Community Foundation is now known for our “acorn,” which symbolizes simple, steady, long-term growth.

In 2004, The Erie Community Foundation launched a new awareness campaign featuring an acorn, which was held by three different local children. Today, the acorn is accompanied with the tagline of “Helping today…Shaping tomorrow,” and some new faces including numerous nonprofit leaders, donors and community members.

Our new spin on the acorn is currently featured in the newspaper. Soon, these new images will appear on our website, in our annual report, and at annual meeting. Enjoy!

Behind the scenes at the first acorn photo session is Scott Mitchell and Denni the McCaw, who eventually cooperated.

In addition, The Erie Community Foundation will celebrate the many good works of our community’s Nonprofit Sector at the Annual Meeting on August 7, 2008. To do this, The Foundation is hosting an Acorn Contest open to all nonprofits who want to showcase their mission. Prizes will be awarded!

Entries are to be a 4X6 photograph in 300 DPI depicting the mission of the nonprofit. Acorns of any kind are to be incorporated within the scene; the more creative, the better.

Entries will be judged for meeting the criteria, artistic merit, originality and creativity. Entries are due to The Foundation by May 14, 2008. Nonprofits can submit their entries by e-mailing Erin Fessler or Robert Wooler.

Three charities will be awarded First, Second and Third Place prizes in the amounts of $500, $300 and $150, respectively; however, every entry is a "winner" because each entry will be featured in an ECF communication piece such as at the annual meeting power point, the annual report, the website or possibly newsletter. Good luck and have fun!
