Nearly $4.5 MILLION returned to taxpayers thanks to Erie FREE Taxes
April 15th, which is the notorious tax day, has come and gone. With that, the numbers are talleyed, and Erie FREE Taxes returned about $4.5 million to Erie County through tax refunds! Last year Erie FREE Taxes returned $2.5 million to Erie County. This obviously is a significant increase!
"We are thrilled with the results," said Cheryl Bates, director of Erie FREE Taxes. "More than 2,500 low to moderate income working families received free tax preparation services through Erie FREE Taxes, and more than 1,000 of these people received the Earned Income Tax Credit."
Erie FREE Taxes saved the Erie community more than $1/2 million in tax preparation services fees through free tax preparation services.
The Erie Community Foundation and Erie FREE Taxes wish to thank all 2010 VITA volunteers for helping return millions of federal tax refund dollars to the Erie community as follows:
