Collaborative effort to increase financial literacy in Erie County

With a goal of increasing financial literacy in Erie County, The Erie Community Foundation and United Way partnered together and recently distributed $134,168 to six nonprofit organizations for the “Money Works for You” project. Agencies that received funding include Advantage Credit Counseling Service, Corry Higher Education Council, Erie DAWN, St. Martin Center, Stairways Behavioral Health and WQLN. The nonprofit organizations will promote the “Money Works for You” project and target the specific populations most in need of case management support, financial literacy education and counseling. The Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) will provide in-kind services as well as the training and administrative support. This joint project aims to increase the financial literacy and financial condition of low-income working families, as well as increase the number of those families who have a banking relationship.
