Mission

Hooked on Books for Kids is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to literacy, life-long learning, and the love of reading.  Our clients are underprivileged children and youth, birth to age 18 in Erie County. 

Programs and Services

  • Books for Kids: Provides brand-new, high-quality books to underprivileged children and youth in Erie County, PA.
  • Wayne School Project: Provides adult readers monthly during the school year to read to students in grades K-4 and gives each student in those grades a new book each month.
  • Hooked on Books: Provides adult readers during the school year and summers as "reading pals" to encourage children to read and to model parental reading in the home.
  • Books for Birthdays: Thirteen locations provide up to 3 books per year to needy children by having parents or care givers register their children and select books as presents for birthdays or other occasions.
  • Teacher Appreciation Day: Provides teachers in Erie County with the opportunity to select up to 10 books for their classroom libraries.
